Codeweavers has revealed an app for Chrome OS that’ll let you run Windows on an Intel-based Chromebook. The software, called CrossOver Android, allows you to use programs like Steam and Office. It’s possible some apps won’t work, but CrossOver should definitely expand your Chromebook’s functionality.
A technical preview of the app is now available and it’ll be fully released for free. The installation takes ~1 hour.
Codeweavers has been working on CrossOver Android for about two years. Its primary limitation of only working with Intel-based units will eventually become less of an issue as more Chromebooks arrive with the necessary hardware requirements for running Android apps and therefore CrossOver.
