Comment on Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 Ultimate by R. Dixon.
Handles AVCHD like a Pro,
I have recently moved from editing standard definition, to high definition home video (AVCHD file format). This editor was recommended as one that does a great job with AVCHD files, and I have to say that it DELIVERS. The hi-def home movies I have edited with Corel Video Studio Pro Ultimate X4 look sensational. I can not detect any loss in video quality. A particular advantage I have found in working with Corel is that there is no problem editing interlaced 1080i high definition video. Edges are smooth and downright beautiful in this editor—no interlacing artifact! Corel has a wide variety of effects, transitions, etc. However, this is no simple “trim-and-menu” editor (though you can easily use it that way, if you want to). Corel has a feature set that requires a learning curve if you want to get all the benefits of the program. I have beginner level experience with other video editing programs, and I am finding Corel to have many of the same features as my other programs. However, after a few days of learning, I still consider myself to be a rank beginner; I will need more time to begin mastering all of the effects. I am sure it will be worth it, because the end-result of my first editing efforts all have excellent video quality. I am using this editor with the video files produced by my Canon Vixia HF M40 Hi Def camera, and find the management of the Canon’s AVCHD files to be top-notch. I also recommend the book “Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies With Corel’s Video Studio Pro x4” by Marc Bech. Even with prior editing experience, I really have needed the book to find and use all of the rich features in this program.
