In its usual fashion, Apple did not mention anything about the RAM when announcing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at its event on Wednesday. However, it has now been confirmed that the bigger iPhone 7 Plus includes 3GB of RAM, while the smaller iPhone 7 only includes 2GB of RAM.
The above info has been confirmed courtesy of the iPhone 7 listing on the TENAA website as well as a Geekbench listing for the smartphone. We are pleasantly surprised though, as most sources had suggested that Apple will not be upgrading the RAM on the new iPhones this year. Of course, some of you might think that 3GB of RAM is still not impressive when compared to Android flagships that sport up to 6GB of RAM. However, you do need to keep in mind that Android and iOS are two very different operating systems and each handles memory differently. So while the iPhone 7 Plus may not match up to Android flagship smartphones on paper, it doesn’t mean that the device will perform any worse than an Android flagship with 6GB of RAM.
Since the jump from 1GB of RAM to 2GB resulted in significantly improved multitasking performance last year, it seems very likely that the iPhone 7 Plus with 3GB of RAM will be a fantastic device for multitasking. So if you are someone who cares about multitasking performance, it would probably be a great idea to choose the bigger iPhone 7 Plus over the smaller 4.7” iPhone 7. Apart from being equipped with more RAM, the iPhone 7 Plus also offers a higher resolution 1080p display, a bigger battery, and dual 12MP cameras at the back with 2x optical zoom.
The iPhone 7 Plus as well as the iPhone 7 can be pre-ordered September 9th onwards in Singapore. The 4.7” iPhone 7 has been priced at S$1048, while the bigger iPhone 7 Plus will set you back S$1248. Keep in mind though, these are the prices for the base 32GB storage models only.
