Comex is back again this September. Once again you can find all sorts of incredible deals on all kinds of products. Whether it is a new computer, a fun piece of tech or some other electronic good, you can find it here. Even the Telcos are making their rounds at this four-day expo. Here are some things to look out for over the next three days. Keep in mind that there are daily deals happening every day. To keep ahead of all that is happening at Comex, keep an eye on the VR Zone Twitter feed.
The Giants of Comex
It would not be Comex without special deals from all the big players. Acer, Lenovo, Dell and several others can be found all over the shop floors. Some such as Asus have their own booth as well as featuring in several distributor booths. Therefore, don’t worry about missing out on any stock. However, don’t expect to find a super crazy deal, as every vendor is sticking a similar price reduction. The most interesting deal can be found with Asus’ ROG series of computers. With the release of their newest range of laptops released, now is a good time to get the best gaming laptops money can buy. Any purchase comes with a free hoodie made by Asus themselves.
Sony also made a significant appearance. Everything from cameras to phones to TVs and the Playstation 4 were on sale and drawing significant crowds. Keep in mind however that just today the Playstation Pro was announced and set to release in November, so best give the consoles a wide berth for now.
VR?
Virtual Reality has been a major talking point ever since the reveal of the Oculus Rift. Speculation about the value of this technology has been rampant. Surely there should be a significant presence at Comex?
There is definitely VR to be found. Asus have their NVIDIA experience booth. Anyone interested can try out a short game demo on the HTC Vive. It is a lot of fun, but very brief.
In terms of actually buying VR tech, there is not that much. Samsung has their Gear VR at several locations across Comex. However, there is only one trial booth, and there is no large-scale marketing for the device. There was one VR game on the show floor, Singapore-made Kaiju Den. This short demo consists of players walking through an atmospheric virtual world, moving by walking on the spot (or nodding your head in rhythm). The game is meant to be episodic and the first chapter is free. Apart from these instances, however, there was very little to no VR on show here at Comex.
The best deals
Comex is all about the deals and where to get them. Right now the very best options are with the Telcos. ViewQwest is continuing their EPL promotion (6 months free English Premier League with sign ups). Likewise, MyRepublic is offering free 6 months on their data plans. This is on top of their existing offer of adding credit towards either a wireless router or a games console. Otherwise, deals to look out for are significant reductions on hoverboards and scooters, even though the fad has died down significantly on the former.
Otherwise selling big are various TV boxes, ranging from simple cable packages to more advanced ones that turn any TV into a smart TV. Vendors gathered a good crowd around these, especially when special deals were made near the end of the day. Keep a look on for these if you want something along the lines of an Apple TV without taking out a small loan from the bank.
As always, keep an eye out on VR Zone’s Twitter and Facebook feeds to keep up to date on special deals over the next few days. Just about every kind of tech can be found at Comex, so now is the time to make the upgrade.
