Chinese iPhone Shipments Fall 15%

Apple’s performance in the Chinese market dipped during the first quarter of 2017. iPhone shipments in the region fell 15%, though Xiaomi (-34%) and Samsung (-60%) were affected even more, according to data from Counterpoint Research.

Other local brands have been gaining ground in the market, pushing down Apple’s mobile device sales. Oppo, for example, saw an 81% increase in shipments during Q1.

Vivo and Huawei were also performing much better.

Part of the shift is attributable to mid-range devices growing more than other sectors. Apple’s iPhones are high-end products and are accessible to fewer consumers.

Apple remains a major player in China, especially when looking at the premium market. It has an 80% share of the “super-premium segment.”
