“We’re working on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. That’s it,” Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch told Eurogamer earlier this year. Sounds pretty definitive, right? Well, it turns out that while that’s technically true—Treyarch is only working on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC version—Black Ops 3 will also be released on older hardware. In a post over on Activision’s Games Blog, the publisher revealed that developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology are working on versions of Black Ops 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Before last-gen players get too excited, it’s worth noting that Beenox and Mercenary Technology—developers with a long history of porting games for Activision—have made a few concessions in order to cram Black Ops 3 onto the older hardware. The campaign mode, multiplayer mode, and zombies mode all make the cut, but cooperative play is limited to two players instead of four. Activision also says that there will be “some other features and functionality built specifically for the new generation of consoles” missing, as well as the unavoidable graphical differences.
Last-gen players won’t have access to the upcoming Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta either, which will remain limited to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Oh, and no, there’s still no Wii U version.
