The business landscape has changed in recent years. We now live in an idea economy, in which the success or failure of a business is determined by its ability to convert new ideas into market-ready products and services faster than competitors. Disruption is constant, and customer expectations are higher than ever. Operational speed is key to surviving and thriving in this new environment, but it’s an attribute that many traditional-style IT departments struggle to achieve.
IT needs to go from anchor to engine, to use a nautical metaphor. And that calls for some careful thinking about infrastructure.
The public cloud can effectively outsource some data center workloads, but significant security, compliance and data control issues make a complete reliance on cloud an unattractive option for many organizations. What kind of on-premises infrastructure would enable the IT ship to really pick up some hull speed – to move at the speed of cloud?
Pull up the anchor – unchain from the mundane
It would need to be one that unifies your data center so you no longer have to manage the numerous silos that encumber your operations. And that includes the silos that separate the traditional-IT workloads that the business relies on – ERP, communication and collaboration, CRM – from the new generation of mobile, cloud-based, big-data-powered applications. Your infrastructure should easily power both types of environment from a single point of control. And it should enable comprehensive automation and orchestration to help you accelerate away from mundane, repetitive provisioning and maintenance tasks.
What I’ve just described is a new category of infrastructure: composable infrastructure. It’s a new way of thinking about the data center. In essence, composable infrastructure abstracts the elements of the data center – compute, storage, and networking – through a software-defined intelligence, converting them into fluid pools of resources that can be deployed dynamically and on-demand. Using a single, unified API, you can provision whatever resources an application requires via a single line of code. When the application completes its run, the resources are automatically returned to the pool for use elsewhere when needed.
Smooth sailing at full speed with HPE Synergy
Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s first instantiation of composable infrastructure, HPE Synergy, delivers a new level of operational velocity for your data center while strengthening your confidence in compliance, security and governance. With HPE Synergy, you can:
- Unify and simplify your infrastructure. Composability effectively unites all of your data center resources, eliminating the technology islands that slow you down. It controls all resources under a single management style, whether they’re allocated to traditional IT workloads or next-generation apps. It doesn’t matter if you’re running virtual, bare-metal, or containerized environments – composability controls and unifies them all. You can work more efficiently, and you’re ready to move fast when you need to support sudden increases in workloads or roll out new services.
- Accelerate IT service delivery and the development of new apps. HPE Synergy’s software-defined infrastructure is ideal for DevOps organizations. Developers can request exactly the right amount of compute, storage and networking fabric they need, and they can code without a detailed knowledge of the underlying hardware. They can also plug into an ever-expanding range of tools from our partner ecosystem so you can turn out more apps, faster. You can deliver better experiences for customers, stay ahead of the competition, and grow revenue.
- Simplify lifecycle management and application integration. HPE Synergy’s software intelligence enables you to connect, aggregate and control your infrastructure in new ways. Change operations that used to take multiple teams weeks to complete are now accomplished automatically, without disrupting your normal operations. You can provision, monitor and update your IT resources across the entire infrastructure from a single interface. You free up people and resources from repetitive tasks so they can drive innovation and help IT become a strategic partner for the organization.
