Back in February, Sony introduced the Xperia Ear. Connected to your Android handset via Bluetooth 4.1 or NFC, this is more than just a wireless earpiece. The Xperia Ear will also act as a virtual voice-activated assistant. Through the accessory you can hear the latest news, weather and your schedule. You can also ask for a certain number to be called, request a search query, navigate to a requested location, and dictate texts. All of this is done through a companion app installed on your phone.
The Sony Xperia Ear will be available for purchase in the U.S. on December 13th. On that date, the smart earpiece will be offered by Amazon. Other retailers where you will be able to find the device following Amazon’s launch include Fry’s and B&H. The suggested retail price is $199.99.
Offered in Graphite Black with a soft silicone inner earpiece, the Xperia Ear is charged by using its storage case that also acts as a charging unit equipped with a 300mAh battery. The unit will provide 16-hours of talk time and 80-hours of Standby. The IPX2 certification rating means that the device is protected from dripping water. The Sony Xperia Ear will work with any Android powered device running Android 4.4 or higher.
