Amazon recently halted sales of smartphones from Blu, a Miami-based company, due to security concerns. It appeared the devices included spyware that was sending user data to Chinese servers, but it’s now known the concern was a “false alarm.” Amazon has put the smartphones back up for sale.
Blu’s phones were also pulled from Amazon last year because of similar spyware-related concerns. In that case, the concerns were more well-founded. Sales began again after Blu updated its third-party software policy.
All of the company’s current data collection is “standard for OTA functionality,” says Blu.
