An alleged screenshot taken on a BlackBerry ‘Mercury’ has been posted online by Roland Quandt, suggesting that the handset will feature a 1620 x 1080 resolution display and a 420 DPI. Unfortunately, the screenshot does not give us any idea regarding the exact screen size. But if rumors are to be believed the Mercury could sport a 4.5-inch sized display. The screenshot also tells us that the smartphone is currently being tested running Android 7.0 Nougat OS, which means it will most definitely ship with the latest version of Android out of the box when it goes on sale in Q1 next year.

While the 1620 x 1080 resolution may sound strange, we’re not very surprised as BlackBerry has a history of using weird aspect ratios and resolutions on its devices, especially those with a physical QWERTY keyboard on the front. And no, the smartphone does not use on-screen navigation keys. As revealed in leaked images of the handset, the Mercury uses hardware navigation buttons placed below the display.

The BlackBerry Mercury is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. In the US, the smartphone will reportedly be sold by Verizon Wireless. Of course, it should also be available for purchase unlocked, on the BlackBerry US store as well as from other major retailers in the country. An official announcement is possible next week at CES 2017, where BlackBerry will be unveiling a couple of new Android smartphone made by TCL.
