The first BlackBerry-branded smartphone from BB Merah Putih has been spotted on Indonesian regulator POSTEL’s database. The device, listed as BBC100-1, is likely to be an all-new device. BlackBerry had announced their device software licensing agreement with the then newly formed joint venture PT BB Merah Putih in September this year. For reference, the DTEK60 carries the model number BBA100-1, while the BlackBerry ‘Mercury’ is expected to carry the model number BBB100-1.
Since it is the first time that the BBC100-1 model number has been spotted online, there is no info on the specifications of the handset. The only thing that is certain, is that the handset will be going on sale in the Indonesian market in the near future. However, speculation suggests the BBC100-1 could turn out to be a full-touch smartphone, which may be positioned between the DTEK50 mid-ranger and the DTEK60 flagship offering. This would mean the handset is going to have better specs than a mid-range offering, but not quite as impressive as a flagship device. For a device that is expected to launch next year, that would mean featuring a Snapdragon 600-series chipset, at least 4GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner, and all the modern connectivity features.
