If you’re planning to buy the iPhone X, Best Buy isn’t going to be the cheapest place to do so. The retailer is charging a $100 premium on the full price of the handset. That above-retail price was listed on the company’s site starting last week and Best Buy has given an interesting explanation.
It says the higher price is meant to give customers more “flexibility” with their purchasing, which doesn’t make a lot of sense. Best Buy didn’t expand upon the alleged flexibility that comes from people spending more if they buy the device upfront.
Our prices reflect the fact that no matter a customer’s desired plan or carrier, or whether a customer is on a business or personal plan, they are able to get a phone the way they want at Best Buy. Our customers have told us they want this flexibility and sometimes that has a cost. – Best Buy
