Dark Souls publisher Bandai Namco is pumping money into Heroz, an AI startup that created an algorithm capable of beating professional human shogi (Japanese chess) players. It has worked on algorithms for other games, such as backgammon.
Heroz’s work in the field of AI will be helped by the investment from Bandai Namco, which itself could benefit from the technology. A clear application of Heroz’s AI is in making non-player characters smarter.
The Pokemon Company and Heroz worked together on Pokemon Co-master, a mobile board game-style title that never amounted to much.
