AT&T-Owned Skyscraper Was An NYC Surveillance Site

AT&T’s connection to the NSA’s spying has become somewhat clearer with the discovery that one of the company’s buildings was an important location for government surveillance activities. Its New York City skyscraper, known as the AT&T Long Lines Building, was used for mass surveillance, according to leaked documents from Edward Snowden.

The Intercept reports the building was likely the NSA’s Titanpointe location. Employees in Titanpointe were involved in Blarney, a surveillance program that monitored the communications of the United Nations, the World Bank, and up to 38 countries, including US allies.

Leaked NSA documents mention AT&T on a few occasions, generally by the name Lithium, a codename for the company.

Titanpointe was also used for another program focused on monitoring internet data, known as Skidrowe.

AT&T denies the NSA ever had direct access to its networks.
