Asus is updating its VivoMini line of small form-factor desktop PC with new models featuring 7th-gen Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processors.
The new Asus VivoMini VM65 supports up to a Core i5-7200U processor and Intel HD graphics while the VivoMini VM65N features a Kaby Lake chip and NVIDIA GeForce 930M graphics.
It seems like the CPU upgrade is just about the only change to the new models. Even the graphics card is the same as the one used in the Skylake-powered VivoMini VM65N unveiled in March.
The computers measure about 7.5″ x 7.5″ x 2.2″ and weigh about 2.6 pounds, making them larger than a typical Intel NUC mini computer. But there’s room under the hood for a full-sized 3.5 inch hard drive or two 2.5 inch drives, and plenty of ports.
The VM65N has two USB 3.1 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DisplayPort, an S/PDIF output, an SD card reader, and separate mic and headphone jacks.
The model without discrete graphics has a similar setup, but features six USB 3.0 ports and no USB 3.1 ports.
Each model supports up to 16GB of RAM and features built-in 2 watt stereo speakers. Wireless options include an 802.11ac/Bluetooth 4.1 card or an 802.11n/BT 4.0 card. And Asus will offer models with Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U CPU options.
I haven’t seen any details about a US price or release date yet, but the VivoMini VM65N will be available in Japan starting December 17th.
