Asus Rolls Out Line of New Tablets

Taiwan-based Asustek Computer Inc. (Asus) took advantage of the 2015 Computex conference being held in its backyard of Taipei to debut a fleet of new products, including a new line of tablets and a smartphone designed for selfies.

The new tablets come in Wi-Fi and LTE/3G connectivity variants, with some also featuring voice calling support. All come with the IPS display technology paired with Asus’ Tru2Life and TruVivid image processing. The tablets also feature DTS Premium Sound and DTS Sound Studio. They run Android 5.0 Lollipop skinned with Asus Zen UI. Pricing and release dates have not yet been announced.

Version Z380C of the ZenPad 8.0 is Wi-Fi-only. Meanwhile, version Z380KL comes with 4G LTE connectivity along with a micro SIM card slot. The Z380C sports an 8-inch 1280 x 800 pixel LED-backlit IPS display and runs on a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom x3-C3200 processor. It comes with a choice of 1 GB or 2 GB of RAM, and a choice of 8 GB or 16 GB of storage that is expandable up to 64 GB with microSD card.

Connectivity options for the ZenPad 8.0 Z380C include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB, GPS, and Glonass. It comes with a 2-megapixel front camera, and a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus. Its 15.2Wh battery is rated to deliver up to 9 hours of battery life.

Storage Options

Version Z580CA of the ZenPad S 8.0 (pictured above) comes with a USB Type C port and features an 8-inch 2048 x 1536 pixel IPS display with a pixel density of 324 ppi. The tablet runs on a 64-bit 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor that’s paired with 2 GB or 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Users can choose 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB of storage variants with expandability support up to 128 GB via microSD card.

The Z580CA comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has an optional Z Stylus that supports up to 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and up to a 1.2mm writing tip. It has a 15.2Wh battery that’s rated to deliver up to 8 hours of battery life.

Selfie Specialty

The smartphone offering is the ZenFone Selfie, which Asus says is designed to capture the best possible selfies quickly and simply. The phone’s two 13-megapixel PixelMaster cameras come with dual-color, dual LED Real Tone flash. The rear camera features a f/2.0 aperture lens and laser auto-focus technology that promises near-instant focusing even in low-light conditions.

At Computex, Asus also introduced Zen AiO Series, an all-in-one PC; and the ProArt PA329Q, a 32-inch 4K ultra-high-definition monitor. The AiO Series comes with the latest quad-core Intel Core processors and up to 32 GB of the DDR4 memory and solid-state storage. It also sports 4 GB of video memory and is the world’s first all-in-one PC to use the next-generation USB 3.1 Gen 2, for data transfers of up to 10 gigabits per second, according to Asus.
