ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the world’s first RGB LED-backlit mechanical gaming keyboard with a detachable numpad design, the ROG Claymore. The unique design of the keyboard has won numerous design accolades recently, including the 2016 Red Dot and Computex d&I awards.
The detachable numpad design allows users to use it as a full-size keyboard when at home, and as an 80% TKL (tenkeyless) gaming keyboard at LAN parties. The detachable keypad can be placed to the left or right of the keyboard to suit different scenarios – on the left side of the keyboard as macro keys for MMO gaming, or on the right for a more traditional keypad placement. The keyboard comes with Cherry MX RGB LED switches, ASUS Aura Sync RGB LED technology for synchronized light effects with various Aura-compatible products, Anti-ghosting and full N-Key rollover (NKRO) technology, exclusive fan control hotkeys when paired with an ASUS motherboard, and built-in flash memory for up to six (five customized and one default) user profiles.
In addition to the ROG Claymore, Asus also announced the ROG Claymore Core, which is a compact TKL mechanical gaming keyboard without the detachable numpad design. Both the Claymore and Claymore Core keyboards are finished in aluminum and have intricate Mayan-inspired etchings on the keyboard chassis.
With the ROG Armoury dashboard, users can customize individual key, lighting and macro settings. Additionally, it can track statistical data like the total number of keystrokes made during a game. No word on pricing or availability yet.
