You probably either hate or love the game, but one thing you’ve got to give Oxide Games, they push technology onwards constantly. Oxide Games as such just added Vulkan support towards Ashes of the Singularity.
By doing so the game now supported DirectX 11, 12 and Vulkan. Considering there are a lot of Windows 7 users that cannot use D3D12, Vulkan might bring a nice performance boost.
Ashes of the Singularity was one of the first DirectX 12 games. With this update for Escalation, the game continues to bring cutting edge technology to its players by adding support for Vulkan, a graphics rendering API that can improve Operating System compatibility and performance. For those on Windows 7 and 8, we recommend benchmarking Vulkan compared to DX11 and seeing what offers better performance. This is our first step for Vulkan support, we will be continuing to optimize and improve compatibility with future releases.
To access the 2.4 opt-in, right click on Ashes of the Singularity Escalation on your Steam Library, select properties, then select the 2.4 opt-in under the betas tab.
Right, I ran some benchmarks with AOTS: Escalation, this is High quality with added 2xMSAA at 2560×1440. As you can see coming from DX11, you gain quite a lot in Vulkan. Vulkan however cannot match DX12 performance wise. But if you are on Windows 7 and, this is a very nice performance update to try out.
