ARM might be the best mobile processor maker, but the competition is slowly becoming tougher. Because of that, the company has decided to partner with one of the best desktop/laptop processor maker Intel to work on the next-generation processor that will use the 10 nm HPM manufacturing process.

The focus is on the Cortex-A55, which would work at 2.35 GHz and 0.45 V, bringing a 30% performance boost and 100 times lower energy leaks over the 28 nm current model. As for the 10nm builds, current test models are clocked at 3.5 GHz and 0.5 V, and its energy efficiency is 0.25 mW/MHz. For comparison, the Snapdragon 820’s Kryo runs at approximately 2W.

It will be interesting to see how good the new 10nm ARM Cortex-A SoCs is and can it beat Apple’s A11.
