Apple previewed 72 new emoji we never knew we needed until now, such as a hand snapping a selfie, and an avocado. However, not all of them are generating universal excitement.
A creepy looking clown and a gorilla that reminds some people of Harambe, the gorilla that was killed at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, are generating the most buzz.

Harambe the gorilla was killed after he grabbed and dragged a 3-year-old boy who fell into the enclosure. Since then, he’s become an online meme that has been criticized for being racist and insensitive.
Some people saw the gorilla emoji as a tribute to Harambe.
Others expressed surprise.
And of course, there’s been a spate of creepy clown sightings that have rattled some people to the extent that even McDonald’s said last month it would limited Ronald McDonald’s public appearances.

The emojis were released in a developer’s version of iOS 10.2, so it’s unclear whether all 72 will make the final cut whenever the update is rolled out to everyone.
The Unicode Consortium, the group governing emoji standards across platforms, approved the new emojis in June. After that, it’s up to Apple, Google, and other platforms to decide which ones to use and put their own spin on them.
Other emojis in the developer’s preview include a rockstar in make-up reminiscent of Ziggy Stardust, a drooling face, and a hand snapping a selfie.
And if all of these new emojis make you want to throw your hands in the air and say “Huh?!” — well, there’s now an emoji for that too.
