Apple's Component Needs Could Restrict Nintendo Sw…

Nintendo’s ability to increase production of the Switch could be restricted by Apple’s need for components. The Wall Street Journal says Nintendo currently has to limit production due to a lack of supply from some of the same suppliers used by Apple.

The company officially has a sales target of 10 million, yet it’d like to produce up to 20 million units in the year ending March 2018.

The problem is an industrywide capacity shortage for components used in smartphones, computer servers and other digital devices. These include the NAND flash-memory chips that store data, liquid-crystal displays and the tiny motors that enable the Switch’s hand-held controllers to imitate the feel of an ice cube shaking in a glass. – WSJ

Toshiba, for example, doesn’t have enough supply to meet the demand for NAND chips, partly due to Apple’s needs. Other tech companies are also affecting Nintendo’s access to components.
