There are a few companies, including Synaptics and Goodix, that have found a way to integrate a fingerprint scanner into the display, but it looks like Apple is still having problems with it. According to a new report from analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company, Apple still has problems integrating the Touch ID sensor into the iPhone 8’s display.
The company is having a hard time to integrate an under-glass fingerprint sensor into the 5.8-inch OLED display and is reportedly unwilling to use an under-glass fingerprint sensor made by a third-party.
Samsung had similar problems and their solution was to relocate the fingerprint sensor to the back of the device.
