Apple’s music streaming service has grown from 27 million paying users in June to 30 million as of September, reports Billboard. At the same time as the service is growing at a respectable rate, its lead executive, Jimmy Iovine, thinks larger upgrades to Music are needed.
I don’t believe that what exists right now is enough […] Just because we’re adding millions of subscribers and the old catalog numbers are going up, that’s not the trick. That’s just not going to hold. – Iovine
Iovine doesn’t believe paid streaming services will perform optimally in the coming years if they don’t offer more than a mere music catalog.
How to inject enough “soul” into subscription streaming services so that fans will pay $10 a month instead of listening to their tunes on free services, which are also growing fast. – Iovine
