Record labels aren’t a big fan of exclusives on Apple Music, says executive Jimmy Iovine. Since it is their content at the end of the day, less exclusive music is going to be featured on the app moving forward.
We’ll still do some stuff with the occasional artist…The labels don’t seem to like it and ultimately it’s their content. – Iovine
There have been reports stretching back at least months about record labels being dissatisfied with the exclusive model. Universal Music Group, Frank Ocean’s former label, was reportedly upset about his Boys Don’t Cry album being exclusive to Apple Music.
