Another new feature for upcoming iPhone lineup is the addition of wireless charger, something Android smartphones had for quite some time now. Aside from alleged images of the components for external charging pad, we have also learned more about its capabilities.
The new iPhone 8 uses the Qi wireless standard, but not the latest Qi 1.2 standard. Instead of having the latest standard that supports 15W charging, the charger will stick with the Standard Power Profile that has a maximum output of 7.5 watts (5V/1.5A). Apple is also expected to block third-party chargers by using the MFi chip.
