New supply chain rumors suggest Apple will be updating the 9.7” and 12.9” iPad Pro models in March, along with releasing a new 10.9-inch iPad model with “no bezels”.
According to Barclays analysts, the upcoming 10.9-inch iPad will be about the same size as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in terms of physical dimensions, with close to non-existent bezels on the side. The next 9.7-inch iPad “Pro” on the other hand could prove to be massive disappointment as it is tipped to feature entry-level specs and is going to be positioned barely above the iPad Mini as an “affordable” iPad model. Speaking of the iPad Mini, the report claims the model won’t be updated in early 2017. This could mean that a new iPad Mini will be released in the second half of the year, possibly along with the iPhone 8 models.
The bigger 12.9-inch iPad will apparently see some significant improvements, such as a True Tone display like the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro, along with similar light sensing hardware. It could also come with a more powerful SoC under the hood, although the report doesn’t mention anything about the hardware specifications of the tablet.
The new 10.9-inch “bezel-less” iPad, 9.7” iPad “Pro”, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro are all expected to be announced at a dedicated event in March 2017.
