Apple Designer's Christmas Tree Is Missing a Few Things…

214

If you’re feeling too lazy to decorate your Christmas tree this year, now you have a fantastic excuse.

The hotly anticipated special holiday tree that Apple’s chief design officer, Sir Jony Ive, decorated for London’s swanky Claridge’s hotel has been unveiled. The kicker: There’s not a single ornament, light, or strand of tinsel on it.

Ive and his designer partner Marc Newson focused instead, they said, on centering an immersive experience around the tree that makes it feel like guests are walking through a snow-covered forest.

“There are few things more pure and beautiful than nature, so that was our starting point, layering various iterations of organic forms with technology,” the design duo said in a statement. “Our aim was to create an all-enveloping magical experience that celebrates our enormous respect for tradition while recognizing our excitement about the future and things to come.”

The exclusive — and frequently over-the-top — holiday tree has been a Claridge’s tradition for the past seven years, with designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry’s Christopher Bailey having the honor in previous years.

So there you have it. Don’t feel like digging out a dusty box of ornaments? Tell everyone you’re taking your Christmas cues this year from Apple’s design genius.
