Apple AirPods Can Survive Drops and Full Washing Machine Cyc…

Apple took the world by surprise when it launched the iPhone 7 without a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Cupertino company stated that consumers would use wireless AirPods to listen to music, but they were made available months after the phone’s release.

A few days ago, many have started receiving their AirPods and some units are now available at Apple stores. The biggest concern with these wireless headphones is their tiny size which makes them easy to lose. Some are also wondering about their resistance to tear and drops. EverythingApplePro posted a video on its YouTube channel showing the AirPods undergoing various tests.

The video shows that AirPods can withstand drops from waist level in their case without breaking, but the case might record some scratches, depending on the surface that it lands on. A drop from head height and ten feet up would make the AirPods pop out of the case, but still remain fully functional, whereas the AirPod Case did have some visible scratches, which would result after extensive use as well.

The AirPods are very light, which means that they bounce quite easily when dropped, thus reducing the chances of recording scratches.

The AirPods can survive a full wash cycle

The second test involved placing the AirPods in the washing machine and undergoing a full wash cycle. This could actually happen in a real-life situation, since the earbuds do fit pockets quite well. The test involved putting detergent and some clothes in the washer for a full cycle.

For comparison, regular headphones were also introduced in the washer. After spending 32 minutes in the washer, the LED was glowing and the earbuds functioned just like before, even better than wired headphones.

The next test involved submerging the AirPods in a foot of water for five minutes. The case doesn’t float and the power button doesn’t work under water, although they stay connected. The AirPods can actually play audio under water. It seems that water submersion doesn’t affect them at all, but that doesn’t mean that the AirPods are actually waterproof.
