Apple A10-powered iPhone 7 Plus shows up on Geekbench data…

257

The upcoming iPhone 7 Plus has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database, powered by Apple’s next-gen A10 SoC under the hood. It managed to score a whopping 3379 points in the single-core test and 5495 points in the multi-core test.

Apple’s custom A-series chips have always managed to post impress single-core scores in Geekbench, so we’re glad to see the trend continue with the A10. However, in the multi-core test, the A10 isn’t ahead of the competition, mainly due to the fact that the A10 is also a dual-core SoC like the current A9. The clock speeds aren’t revealed though, as Geekbench doesn’t report the maximum clock speed of the processor. However, the benchmark listing does suggest the iPhone 7 Plus will not be an upgrade over the 6s Plus in terms of memory. A few rumors that surfaced online earlier this year had claimed that the iPhone 7 models will feature 3GB of RAM for better performance, but if this benchmark listing is anything to go by, that will not be the case. That said, we do need to keep in mind that iOS and Android do not handle memory the same way, so it doesn’t mean that the iPhone 7 duo won’t impress with multitasking.

Apart from the more powerful A10 chip, the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to be a relatively minor upgrade over the current 6s Plus. The design too won’t be very different, as confirmed by the numerous spy shots of the device that leaked online recently. On the hardware front, the phablet is expected to come with up to 256GB of internal storage, a dual camera setup at the back, a ‘Force Touch’ home button, water resistance, and faster connectivity. Another major change will be the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack, as Apple wants you to use the Lightning port instead. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will ship with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter in the box, along with new Lightning EarPods.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be made official this Wednesday.
