Today, December 8, 2016, AMD announced the general availability for download of the latest AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 proprietary graphics driver for Linux-based operating systems.
Shipping with FreeSync support and DirectGMA for OpenGL, the AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 graphics driver provides support for some GNC 1.0 GPUs from the Southern Islands series, namely AMD Radeon R7 M465X, AMD Radeon R7 M370, and AMD Radeon R7 M350.
Additionally, the AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 graphics driver includes install scripts for the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3, CentOS 7.3, CentOS 6.8, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 Service Pack 2, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 operating systems.
Supported features and GNU/Linux distributions
AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 provides support for the OpenGL 4.5, GLX 1.4, OpenCL 1.2, Vulkan 1.0, VDPAU APIs, as well as Vulkan support for the Dota 2 video game. It bundles basic display and power management features, a GPL-compliant kernel module, and support for the ADF (Atomic Display Framework) and KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) technologies.
It also comes with FirePro features like EDID Management and 30-bit color, and support for 64-bit versions of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8, CentOS 7.3, CentOS 6.8, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 Service Pack 2, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2, and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS operating systems.
There are some known issues in this release of the driver, such as a hard-hang that might occur during display hot-plug, the inability for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 to detect modeset when hot-plugging a new monitor, and failure of the EnSight 10 benchmark test.
That being said, the AMDGPU-PRO graphics driver is still targeted at newer AMD Radeon GPUs, and if you’re curious to know if your graphics card is supported, don’t hesitate to check out the full list of supported GPUs in the release notes, from where you can also download the AMDGPU-PRO 16.50 binaries for your Linux distro.
