AMD just talked about 3rd-gen Ryzen on 7nm aka Ryzen 3000. AMD gave a public preview live on stage at CES together with James Prior running a Radeon VII graphics card and an 8-core Ryzen 3000 series processor.

On stage, AMD put the Intel’s finest consumer desktop proc, the Core i9 9900K against an 8 core 16 threaded Ryzen 3000 proc (AMD did not have a final frequency to share). Su also shows the die and as you can see from the screengrabs below, the architecture is totally different as the 8-core part also uses a chipset design for IO+CPU cores, the bigger chip, in fact, is the IO chip. It is likely that the IO chip is fabbed at 12 or 14nm and the CPU cores at 7nm.

In the demo Cinebench CB15 was taken for a test drive, and showed the 8c/16t Ryzen 3000 to be as fast (slightly faster) than a Core i9 9900K, both score just above 2000 points, CB15 2057 multi for Ryzen 3000 and 2042 for Core i9 9900K. The demo also is indicative that Ryzen 3000 is not yet launched and AMD also did not share anything on model numbers meaning that short term you cannot expect the new procs, but it will be the ‘middle of’ this year for sure. My gut feeling says that to be in the Computex timeframe.
