It’s easy to search for movies or TV shows from Amazon if you’re using an Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, as well as some videos from third-party apps.
But up until recently, two of the most popular online video services weren’t included in the Fire TV Universal Search feature. Now Amazon is rolling out a software update that means you can search more than 75 apps and channels at once… including Netflix and HBO.
The software update lets you search by voice to see results from HBO GO, HBO NOW, and other sources
The update also introduced some new Alexa voice controls, such as:
- “Skip ahead 30 seconds” (or any other length)
- “Rewind 10 seconds” (or any other length)
- “Next” to play the next episode
- “Give me my sports update” to view scores for your favorite teams (as set in the Alexa app)
Amazon’s 1st and 2nd-gen Fire TV boxes as well as the Fire TV Stick should all support the new features, but you’ll either need a voice remote or a smartphone app to use Alexa features with a Fire TV Stick.
Incidentally, the Fire TV is currently on sale for $15 off, while the Fire TV Stick is $5 off.
