Amazon will launch a music streaming service exclusively for Echo owners in the coming weeks, reports The Verge, and an on-demand service for everyone will arrive next year. The Echo-based service reportedly costs $5 and features the same set of music that it’s more widely available $10 service will use.
Discussions with music labels have been going on for weeks and have yet to finish. Sources claim they are close to finalizing the required deals. Amazon is negotiating with them for both services at the same time.
While the Echo-based service will only apply to a small group of users, Amazon “Music Unlimited” may be a true competitor to Spotify and Apple Music.
