Amazon has carried out its first successful Prime Air drone delivery test in the United States. The public demo was completed in California, with attendees of the company’s MARS conference allowed to witness the delivery of some sunscreen bottles.
The drone controlled itself autonomously during the delivery. Amazon previously carried out a public drone test in the UK in December 2016.
Amazon says this is the first time it’s flown a Prime Air drone in public in the US. All other tests have utilized private property and haven’t been open to the public.
This kind of testing brings Amazon “one step closer to making 30-minute package delivery by drone a reality.”
