Amazon reportedly wants to enter the business of selling event tickets in the United States. Reuters claims the company is speaking with venue owners about offering tickets to their events, which would turn Amazon into a large competitor to Ticketmaster.
It’s possible this expansion of the company’s services would lead to special deals for Prime subscribers and Amazon could offer tickets with lower fees than those in place at Ticketmaster. Competition could potentially boost ticket sales due to improved service, which would help venue owners.
Before making this move, Amazon reportedly spoke with Ticketmaster about a partnership. Because they couldn’t figure out who would control customer data, the discussions ended.
