Twitter was home to Thursday Night football games in 2016, but this year the NFL has sold those rights to Amazon instead. Amazon Prime will offer 10 games during the season. It reportedly beat Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook to win the rights.
Reports claim Amazon spent $50 million to stream 10 games, up from Twitter’s $10 million.
Only Amazon Prime subscribers will have access to the content, whereas Twitter made the games available for free. As usual, all of the games will be available through traditional TV sources.
We’re focused on bringing our customers what they want to watch, Prime members want the NFL. – Jeff Blackburn, senior VP, Amazon
