ADATA has come up with a new high performance M.2 SSD targeted at gamers and other demanding users who demand extremely high storage performance. The new XPG SX8000 supports the NVMe 1.2 specifications and connects directly to motherboards via PCI Express 3.0 x4 to deliver an impressive 2.4 GB/s read and 1 GB/s write. Random reads reportedly hit 100K IOPS, while random writes can hit 140K IOPS. The drive will be available in capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB (128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB). ADATA says that a slightly faster version will be launched by the end of next month, with an attractive XPG heatsink that will provide an aesthetic bonus for case modding enthusiasts.

The ADATA XPG SX8000 uses a 3D MLC NAND flash and an SMI 2260 controller, which helps it achieve the above speeds. But of course, it is not the fastest M.2 SSD on the market by any means, you do need to head the Samsung way if you want the absolute highest transfer speeds.

ADATA claims improved reliability as well, with the SX8000 featuring a 2 million hour MTBF (mean time between failures) rating, which is 25% longer than 2D NAND SSDs. The SX8000 also uses Intelligent SLC Caching, which lets the drive operate in pseudo single-level cell mode for speed boots whenever extreme data loads are encountered. To further enhance performance, it uses DRAM Cache Buffer which leverages system RAM to achieve consistently high speeds even during the most intense tasks. To prevent data corruption, the drive uses LDPC ECC (low density parity check error correction). The SX800 drives also come backed by a 5-year warranty.
