ADATA Technology today launched the Ultimate SU800 SATA 6Gb/s 3D NAND solid state drive. The Ultimate SU800 is a mid-range model and is mainly targeted at consumers using 2D NAND SSD drives or HDD users upgrading to a SSD for the first time.
Thanks to multi-layered 3D NAND flash, the Ultimate SU800 packs greater storage density into the 2.5” form factor, allowing for capacities ranging between 128GB to 1TB. The drive uses an SMI controller, which delivers a 10% improvement in performance when compared to 2D NAND drives that used TLC chips. As for the numbers, ADATA claims maximum sequential read speeds go up to 560MB/s while write speeds touch 520MB/s.
Apart from increased performance, the new Ultimate SU800 also promises a 25% increase in reliability. The drive has an impressive MTBF (mean time before failure) rating of 2,000,000 hours. For comparison, 2D NAND SSDs have an average MTBF of 1,500,000 hours. To ensure maximum durability, ADATA has incorporated LDPC (low density parity check) error correcting code, data shaping, and a RAID Engine.
While there is no info on pricing yet, the Ultimate SU800 will be backed by a 3-year warranty.
