More of a personal entertainment center than a PC, the new Acer Revo One RL85 offers a compact and attractive way for users to manage all their movies, music and more in one place. Available now in the U.S., the desktop — which measures just over six inches tall — is “designed to fit within any living environment, including tight spaces,” according to Acer.
The mini-PC offers support for dual displays, with some models able to power 4K televisions and 4K2K ultra-high-definition monitors. It can also support two additional hot swappable HDDs and, depending on the model, comes with fifth-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processors.
For the audiophile, the Acer Revo One RL85 delivers dynamic 7.1 channel surround sound output. It can also be controlled either by a wireless keyboard and mouse, or via a remote-control app that users can download onto their smartphones or tablets.
Up to 6 TB of Storage
The Revo One RL85 offers the “newest and coolest media hub to home entertainment enthusiasts,” said Frank Chang, Acer America’s Senior Director of Stationary Product Management. There are four different models, ranging from the $ 249.99 RL85-UR41, driven by Intel Celeron 2957U dual-core 1.40 GHz processors, to the $ 579.99 RL85-UR45, which features dual-core Intel i5-5200U 2.20 GHz processors.
The sleek, white chassis of the Revo One RL85, which has rounded corners, measures just 4.19 inches wide and 4.19 inches deep, with a height of 6.1 inches. It delivers an 802.11ac protocol-enabled Wi-Fi connection that, according to Acer, is “up to three times faster than traditional 802.11bgn-powered PCs.”
With its support for additional HDDs, the new Acer desktop can also be “configured to RAID 0, 1 and 5 for speed, excellent data protection or backup,” according to the company. That means the high-end RL85-UR45 can offer up to 6 terabytes of storage across three 2-terabyte drives.
Support for Personal Cloud
Acer’s new Revo One RL85 also delivers automatic synching of all personal devices on the user’s home network. Through its support for Acer’s Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC), users can also access all the files on the device from wherever they are.
“As with all Acer devices currently shipping, the RL85 comes pre-loaded with everything customers need to use BYOC, an easy way to access all files, photos, music, and documents using any device from any manufacturer,” Acer said. “The data is secure and private, since the personal cloud is powered by the customer’s own devices.”
All versions of the new desktop run Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system. In addition to the entry-level RL85-UR41 and the high-end RL85-UR45, models also include the $ 299.9 RL85-UR42, with the same Intel Celeron processors as the basic model, and the $ 479.99 RL85-UR44, which features Intel Core i3-5010U dual-core 2.10 GHz processors.
First unveiled early this year at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Acer Revo One RL85 is available at retail outlets across the U.S.
