Acer is expanding its QHD monitor lineup with the announcement of the new BE270U. It is a new 27-inch 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor with 100% sRGB color gamut coverage and wide 178-degree viewing angles. The monitor is mainly targeted at graphics professionals, such as art directors, photographers, videographers and website designers as well as hobbyists who want to work on similar projects. Its 4-side borderless zeroframe design makes it easy to have multiple monitors side by side and helps save desk space at the same time.

Acer has only specified a dynamic contrast ratio figure of 100,000,000:1 for this monitor, which is pretty much a useless figure. However, as is usually the case with most IPS monitors, expect a static contrast ratio of around 1000:1. The panel offers a 6ms (grey-to-grey) response time, 350 nits maximum brightness, a 75Hz native refresh rate, and 16.7 million colors.

The monitor’s ErgoStand allows swivel adjustments up to 60 degrees, tilt between -5 and 35 degrees, and pivot 90 degrees. I/O connectivity includes a USB 3.0 hub, MiniDisplayPort, DisplayPort, and MHL x2. Two 2W speakers are integrated as well, although you shouldn’t have high hopes from them in terms of either loudness or overall quality.

The Acer BE270U is now available in the US through Acer’s channel partners with a three-year limited parts and labor warranty. It carries an MSRP of $499, which is fairly decent given its specs and positioning.

Acer’s press release reads:

“Our newest monitor delivers gorgeous images in a feature-rich, ergonomic design for customers wanting a no-compromise viewing experience,” said Ronald Lau, Acer America director of stationary computing. “In addition to optimizing viewing comfort, it provides superb ability for multi-tasking with multi-streaming and picture-in picture capability in an energy-efficient design.”
