With iPhone X, Apple unveiled a new Face ID sensor that is located at the front and was causing the company a lot of problems with production. Fortunately, the production is improving, but Apple is reportedly working on a new rear-facing 3D sensor system for its 2019 iPhones, according to Bloomberg.
This is just one of many AR-focused projects as the purpose of this 3D sensor is to improve Apple’s augmented reality apps and services on the new device, allowing users to create a depth map. This is also an improvement from the current Face ID sensors, since it will use lasers to create a depth map.
