   UPDATE: As of Feb 2018 Pioneer has refused to release an update to the key software that makes all of the main Nav/Audio features work (AppRadio). They issued notices to owners on 9/17 alerting anyone that IOS 11 is NOT compatible with their systems. While they claimed they are working on it. It’s now 11/22/2017 and support at Pioneer claims they have NO information on when an update will be released and ask customer to “NOT UPDATE their phones to the latest IOS”, that is the wrong message to send out to people who are constantly told to keep their IOS up to date for security and features. Pioneer could have that app fixed in a week max, but they are NOT putting resources toward this and I would strongly suggest you avoid this brand and unit until they update the main application that makes it useable.

   This has been an interesting quest to update my 99 CLK Cab. I wanted to keep the car as stock as possible so a double din unit was out of the question. Besides, with the location of the head unit on many European cars of this vintage, a double din unit would require you to keep your line of sight much lower to see the screen (not good for driving and nav). Overall, the unit works pretty well, but I had some issues that I think Pioneer could have solved prior to sending these out to the market:
   Pros: bright, easy to read screen. Good integration with iPhone on Bluetooth and direct connections through the USB port on the head unit. Good value for the features and overall quality.
   Cons: AppRadio is half-baked and difficult to use. While Pioneer can’t control 3rd party apps and if/when/how they work within the AppRadio world, this app could have been so much better in terms of programming, interface, interaction, and common use. It’s terrible with 3rd party navigation apps, Waze dropped support for it, Google Maps won’t work, Apple maps – forget it!, and the couple of apps it supports are pretty lame. Come on Pioneer, you have more capacity and resources to make this so much better!
   This was a real tight fit with my car even though the physical size of the head unit is the same as the stock MB unit, but Pioneer adds way too many connectors (RCA jacks etc.) to the back of the unit so stuffing this in the same space takes modification and lots of time and care. While I know they’re trying to make the unit more flexible for all sorts of cars, they could have made the many extra connectors easily removable for customers who don’t need them. The main power/speaker connector bus is WAY too SHORT making installing unnecessarily complex. They should offer an extension bus connector available as an accessory.
   IMPORTANT for the warranty. Pioneer voids any warranty if the product is purchased from any but their authorized resellers. Be careful where you purchase or you’re out of luck if the unit dies within the warranty period. Pioneer confirmed with me via email that Amazon direct purchase was covered, but not Amazon’s other marketplace resellers. Check with Pioneer prior to purchase if you have any doubts.
   Several local car stereo installers warned me about the longevity and durability of a single DIN motorized display unit. We’ll see if they are correct in a few months. I’ll report back.

   Really do like this, the only drawback is that it is Not cross platform friendly. I either set it up for my Android phone or my iPod, will only work with one or the other. Since I would rather be able to use my phone hands free I am without my music.

   To start off, this head unit is amazing. The sound is above and beyond what I expected, the screen definition is awesome for a car stereo, and the touchscreen is very responsive and easy to work. The unit itself looks awesome, and that’s before the touchscreen slides out. Bluetooth connects automatically with no problems, I can leave my phone in my pocket and listen to music via Bluetooth no issues, the guy that said the Bluetooth range sucked in another review probably has something wrong with his phone, cause It plays flawlessly for me. Also, i want to clarify, you do NOT need app radio to use the stuff like bluetooth, and pandora streaming. As far as the app radio stuff goes, so far I’m not impressed, it requires downloading a ton of apps to get it to work, and can be pretty complicated at times. But since everything else works flawlessly I honestly don’t really care about the app radio stuff. Pandora streaming is easy, plays clear, and is just awesome. One thing that was pretty rough was the installation, lot of wires, lot of soldering, and running the green wire to the parking brake sucked, but in the end it was all worth it. Honestly this head unit sat in my wishlist for a long time, I really wanted it but price was a little high for me, but now that I have it and have been using it, my only regret is not picking it up sooner. From the seller I got fast shipping and it was well packaged. Definitely would buy again. Awesome head unit from an awesome brand.
